Port Charlotte, Florida
History:
Port Charlotte is a classic example of post-war Florida dream-building—a community that barely existed before the 1950s and yet now houses tens of thousands. After World War II, returning GIs and their families were looking for sunshine and space. Enter the General Development Corporation (GDC), one of the largest land developers in American history. In the late 1950s, GDC bought up huge swaths of swampland and scrub, dredged canals, laid roads, and marketed Port Charlotte nationwide as a retirement paradise.
The promise? Affordable lots, warm winters, and a home of your own near the Gulf Coast. Their mail-order marketing campaign was so successful that families up north bought land sight unseen. Some arrived to find dirt roads, no sewers, and no central business district—but they stayed, built, and grew a community out of wilderness.
Fascinating Tidbits & Secrets:
Port Charlotte was once known as “The Paper Town”, because so many of its lots were purchased from afar without anyone walking the land.
The town's canal system includes over 165 miles of waterways, many of them navigable, offering backyard boat access to Charlotte Harbor.
In 2004, Hurricane Charley devastated Port Charlotte—flattening homes, tearing off roofs, and nearly wiping out entire neighborhoods. The community's rebuild was fast and determined, and many residents consider it the town's defining moment of resilience.
There is no “downtown” in the traditional sense—Port Charlotte was designed in a decentralized, suburban model. Instead, it has clusters of commercial zones and hidden neighborhood gems, like local tiki bars tucked into canal-front strip malls.
The Cultural Center of Charlotte County, once the heart of community life, hosted everything from ballroom dancing to bridge games before closing permanently in 2021. A proposed rebirth of the space is stirring local debate and nostalgia.
Though often overlooked for its more glamorous coastal neighbors, Port Charlotte is a true hometown for thousands of working families, retirees, and saltwater souls. It’s Florida suburbia—with canals, kindness, and character.

David was assigned to our company as part of
a long term IT contract that hospice and it’s related $12B health system has maintained.
David was an excellent IT professional. He was responsible for all hardware,
software and all peripherals for our staff of 350. He accurately and
efficiently set up new or replacement equipment (laptops and desktops) for a
growing organization. David trained and refreshed staff on the equipment
operations especially since 250 staff work remotely and must access our servers
each and every day. With patience and skill he fielded call or in person
requests for tech support. Never did I receive a complaint but only compliments
on his efficiently and customer service skills
In addition to the day to day tech support responsibilities, David
troubleshooted any servers and peripheral devices to ensure smooth daily
operations of our $50 million healthcare organization. He would reach out to
the IT vendor - Custom Computers - if additional tech support was needed
During emergencies David always stepped up and provided support
What made David exceptional was the combination of customer service skills
blended with tech support knowledge. Always on time and focused on his
responsibilities.
It is with pleasure that I recommend this skilled IT professional
As one of the medical directors at a hospice network where we provided services to over 500 patients at end of life care having David Lynch as the head of IT was a pivotal part of being able to provide efficient care. He was always so helpful with taking care of changes and updates in a quickly manner. Our service is high stress and David managed to do his job with great energy and he always had a smile on his face. Being in charge of all the computers and EMR for all of our nurses in the field is a big task that he managed so well. I recommend highly recommend David Lynch.
He was always helpful
and responsive to IT
issue that came up. Pleasant personality.
Ilya S., Title Company National Underwriter
David was part of the IT group that serviced our company. He
was always very
responsive, accommodating and helpful. My interactions with
David were always
positive.
Sarah, Title Company Manager
David was our IT guy and was great at his job. He was always
professional,
courteous, efficient and always solved my IT issues.
Dorian Lam
VP at First Nationwide Title
David was very reliable and solved all of our requests to
the best of his ability and in
good spirits.
Bill W., Title Company Counsel
I had the pleasure of working with David at my present company. We have over 300 employees, including field staff, for which David was the main IT support. He is able to multi-task and make it look easy. He is professional and very knowledgeable in his field. David is very dependable. He was here everyday throughout COVID to ensure our team members were able to do their jobs. It should be noted that David almost single handedly prepared the office staff with laptops at the beginning of COVID. Which included programming, distributing, also an accounting and signing for each piece of machinery he handed out. He also trained several of the team members how to access their computer at home. This was no easy feat as many of them have not used a laptop before. David is liked by all. His kind and empathetic personality came through with each interaction and with every team member. He understands that some of the employees are not computer literate. He showed great patience - taking the time to help them understand and be able to perform their daily tasks both remotely and in office. I would highly recommend David Lynch for any role. He would be an asset to any company. David is a pleasure to work with.
From: Julie I. Subject: David Lynch
I may or may not have already expressed this to you but it
is important enough to say again.
I have worked with countless IT staff over the years and,
other than you K., I have NEVER worked with one as professional, capable,
responsive, efficient, friendly, and patient as David Lynch.
He never complains, never gets frustrated with seemingly
trivial questions or challenges, and never gets impatient with us.
He is truly the epitome of an “IT Professional” and it is so
refreshing to work with him.
Thank you for bringing him to your team and for his
continued positive and professional contributions.
Absolutely thrilled to work with him and have him on the IT team!

Oh, and my entire healthcare leadership and clinical
team have expressed the same thing!
Kudos Kudos Kudos to David – he is the best!
To Whom It May Concern,
I had the pleasure to work with David in his capacity in IT
support for our Hospice offices. He provided direct support to
the Physician staff as well
including myself. David was always knowledgeable, patient
and resourceful in
troubleshooting our issues. He always made himself readily
available, and received
high praise for his work and his rapport with the other
staff members. It is without
reservation that I recommend David for his next career
opportunity.
Sincerely,
